The Problem
Epilepsy affects 3 million Americans and 50 million people worldwide - more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and Parkinson's disease combined. Epilepsy is just as common as breast cancer! Yet epilepsy STILL receives significantly less funding for research and support! We need funding for research to find a cure... we need individual supports, financial and social... we need others to understand how to take care of us when we have seizures! Through this documentary film, we will promote global awareness and education for epilepsy.

Plan of Action
This documentary film covers the full spectrum of what it's like to live with epilepsy by following the lives of three individuals with the condition. The Sacred Disease displays an intimate portrayal of the complexities and daily difficulties faced by people with epilepsy.
Although epilepsy is more common than Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis combined, it receives less funding. In comparison to autism, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's at receiving $200 - 400 in research funds per person - epilepsy receives only an average of $35 per person. Additionally, the majority of all epilepsy research is focused on medications even though only two-thirds of the epilepsy population responds to anti-epileptic drugs.
Featuring interviews with historians, top medical researchers, and people living with epilepsy, we hope to increase awareness, encourage viewers to act and bring the epilepsy community closer to finding a cure.
We have contacted groups and epilepsy organizations that are willing to assist our project in many ways: financial assistance, promotions, and helping us create a community-wide effort to make this film succeed. We are working with the entire community to reach others all over the world in need of epilepsy education. With this effort, we are reaching a global audience!
