32why it's important:
The youth program of the Red Cross has training sessions for young children throughout the year to teach them what to do if an emergency happens. They train them how to stay calm if or when they may have to call 911. Minor children account for about 28% of the Medina county area. Our goal is to prepare them to take action in emergency situations and save more lives.
the plan of action:
We will accomplish this by offering four types of safety training, including, Basic Aid Training, Babysitter’s training, Community First Aid, and Safety and Whale tales. Just in the Medina County Chapter alone, we know of two lives that have been saved by a call from children as young as nine years of age that utilized the training they had previously received. During the training they learn to develop the confidence they would need to deal with “scary” situations and life-threatening emergencies. Think about it, what would a child without this training do if they were staying at their grandmas for the night and she had a heart attack? With this training they would know how to act.
