The Problem

A friend and I have been working to help benefit our community in a positive way. We devised two ways to help the community by raising funds and sacrificing our time and abilities. The first of our ideas was a dodgeball tournament within our school to benefit the food bank. We had about 20 teams sign up with the application fee of 15$ per team. It was a great success, not only raising some money for the fight against hunger, but getting everyday students involved in the fight as well. We plan on hosting a similar dodgeball tournament in the spring and possibly selecting another field to benefit. The second of our efforts so far came as pure volunteer work. We signed up our school to voluntarily ring bells for the salvation army outside of our local wal-mart and hy-vee stores. We needed approximately 50 kids to fill in all of the time slots and asked them to ring the bells and sing Christmas carols for an hour at a time. This too was a great success raising money for the salvation army while putting a good impression on the general public for our high school. As a member of a variety of committees at my high school I also take part in many other volunteer efforts. These two have been some of the bigger and more successful of my friend and I's leadership efforts.
