Sam Novey & the Burgerman Marathon for Citizen Schools
the problem:
Every day, citizens — people like you and me, and businesses right in our community — volunteer in a Citizen School classroom to teach middle schoolers valuable, hands-on job and leadership skills, stimulate creativity, and enrich their daily curriculum to enhance student achievement. But there are so many more students that need our help. Normally, when I try and make something better, I just throw a little ketchup on it. But, when it comes to kids’ educations, we need more than ketchup. We need resources.

1why it's important:
The Citizen School model works. And I know it does because I’ve seen the results in the kids I've worked with over the last two years in Charlestown, MA. But I also know we can do better—we can reach more students.
the plan of action:
My parents named me Sam, but most people call me Burgerman. There are three things I love in life: b.good’s burgers. Running. And education.
I have decided to team up with b.good, Citizen Schools, and my ever-growing Burger Man family to run the Boston Marathon in a burger costume. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for children’s education.
We know $100,000 is an ambitious goal. But, more importantly, we know that we owe it to our community’s children to take on this challenge. I hope you will consider joining Team Burgerman because our kids need your help.
Achieving our $100,000 goal will assure we can maintain and improve our programs, support our hardworking volunteers, and have the opportunity to expand these afterschool hands-on learning projects into 20 new classrooms like the Charlestown school I have volunteered in for 2 years.
