The Problem

By putting on the first City-Wide Youth Conference last February, the San Jose Youth Commission was attempting to make high school youth more aware of the many statistics that are out there about youth. In addition, we wanted youth to use what they learned from the conference to take action in their communities.

Plan of Action

The idea for putting on such an enormous conference first came up during one of the commission's training sessions and grew from there. We began working six months before the date of the conference in February 2008. We are now in the midst of planning a second conference on follow up on many of the ideas we discussed a year ago. The hope is that youth in San Jose have become more aware of their surroundings and have taken action on make their communities better places to live.
