The Problem

Mayor Otis Johnson began the Savannah Youth Council in 2004 to give youth a voice in government. The unique thing about this council is that it was geared towards middle school students. It is the only kind in the U.S. Most youth councils focus on high school students. This gives middle school students an opportunity to develop professional and leadership qualities and capabilities.

Plan of Action

Engage the current youth council in more activities which includes more community and civic projects as well as provide more leadership workshops, and educational trips and activities. Funding is not currently available for these goals and missions.
