why it's important:

This issue is very important to me because I have seen teens in my school in dating relationships. A lot of them don't seem to recognize warning signs of abuse in their dating relationships. Some children simply accept constant yelling, ignoring, or attempts by their dating partner to belittle them as normal.

One teenager in my neighborhood ended up having severe bouts of depression and lost her self-confidence after such abuse. She is still healing.

the plan of action:

My plan is to make up a brochure with facts on teen dating abuse and hang them up in classrooms and buildings. The brochure will also include information on what to do should they be in an abusive relationship.

The brochure will be displayed in prominent locations with excellent visibility. I have obtained school support for this event. In addition, I also intend to request the support of local media to cover the event and write an article about the issue in the paper.

This event will begin on Dec 3rd, and continue on for two months continuosly. I also intend to create a comprehensive website on the topic at the end of the two month period.

Others can help to put up the brochure in various places, e-mail them to friends and families, and speak and share the facts on the brochure with others.
