Saving the Heartland
Hello and welcome to your personal inside view of the perfect place in the world. The perfect place? You say it does not exist. Well, you would be worng. It is here, right here where I was born and raised. Where is that? Well, it is in the center of the country, the heartland, little Worthington, Iowa. I know your says I have never heard of Worthington, and where is Iowa, but as I said we are all right in the center of the great United States.
This is that quite little town that you would see in the movies. Where the moms stay home all day and have dinner on the table by exactly 6 o'clock. Yeah, it is perfect here. Well, almost perfect. My cozzy little town is going out of business and locking up its doors. We have had business after business come through our town and no one can seem to make a home here. We are not the economical choice to put a Wal-Mart or mall and because of this fact we are going out of business. The gas station was closed for almost two years before someone took a roll of the dice with it. We lost our general store, that became a Karen's Kafe, then that sat empty for a year and a half, and is now a Simon's resturant, but for how long. There is a school in town. A private Catholic school, St. Pauls, I went to school here it was the best years of schooling I ever had. The school started out as a high school putting out graduates who did great things every year. And know one said that settling down to have a family was not a great thing. The high school was deminished into a preschool to 6th grade school. Now sadly in about two or three years it will just be an empty building.
There is heartbreak in every word of this. My world is dying. Except for one small part. My father use to be a local member of the Worthington Sportsmans Club and loved everything it stood for, but was sad to see what was happening to it. It was not being up kept and was being put further and further into debt. So what did he do, he stood up and took the bull by the horns. My dad became the president of the club and has been slowly turning the club out of debt. Not only that but has gotten support from the town and local surrounding towns, and other clubs. He fixed up the pond and painted and planted and trimmed and stock the whole club. He is told everyday by someone new how great of a job he is doing turning the club around. But he can not do it a lone and he is not. My whole family helps and friends and other members. Wwe all do what we can to help but the debt we are in is so great that we are in disperate need of funding. This is my reason and sole purpose of writing this. We need help and are here to ask for it.
Thank You very much
Tracy
