The Problem

Many citizens of Saint Lucia, a small island in the Caribbean, aren't aware of the rich biodiversity of their island - and several of the reptiles and birds can't be found anywhere else in the world! Without awareness of these animals and their habitats, there is little chance that they will be protected for future generations.

Plan of Action

Create an afterschool program that is led by Secondary School Students (Grades 10 and 11), in order to teach Primary School Students (Grades 3-5) about their unique island fauna. Secondary Students must apply and interview to be a part of the program, and up to 30 chosen applicants enjoy a week-long camp in the rainforest and leadership training during the summer. During the first school term, the leaders are given weekly activities to prepare and teach to the primary school students.
