The Problem

I suppose it could be categorized as a problem of public safety. The team helps educate the community in outdoor safety and are on-call 24/7 to respond to missing persons and evidence searches as well as flood, fire, and eathquake evacuations.

Plan of Action

The Napa County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team has been in existance since 1992. In 2006 my father and I finally were able to start an attached Explorer Post, which allows youths ages 14-20 to join the team. I was technically secretary of the unit the first year, but served as acting president for most of it. I attended extensive out of county trainings to be able to come back and teach our own team. I have now been president of the Explorers and one of the team's captains since 2007. I am called upon to teach the entire team, including the adults, on many occasions. I believe that I have become one of extremely valued members of our team and have recently joined the California Explorer Search and Rescue team (CalESAR) as well. Since joining search and rescue I have only missed about 3 callouts. I have participated in many successful operations and last summer I personally found the missing and injured subject in Yosemite National Park.
