The Problem

Students Everywhere Assisting Students is a nonprofit organization established by fifteen teens who traveled to the Gulf Coast in July of 2006 in the wake of its most devastating and merciless disaster. Their one month stay, filled with a combination of satisfaction, stress, anger, fascination and hope, changed their lives more than they could have ever predicted. Together they realized that although their summer journey may have ended, a new one was begging to unfold. SEAS is their continuation of this journey, an organization dedicated to improving the lives Gulf Coast youth through the dedication and initiative of young adults across the country. SEAS' mission is to alert youth nationwide about the continuing plight of young people affected by Hurricane Katrina, and to inspire them to take action to create a positive and lasting change in the Gulf region. SEAS' specific goals are: - To assist the rebuilding process of the homes, communities, and schools of Gulf Coast youth - To quicken the transition from the fear and chaos of the hurricane to the normalcy of childhood and adolescence - To aid in the improvement of the Mississippi and Louisiana education system - To bridge the gap between young people of the north and south - To promote equality and eradicate stereotypes by building relationships between differing cultures - To advocate the needs of the Gulf Coast region to young people nationwide and encourage them to make a difference
