The Problem

Seattle Young People’s Project (SYPP) is a place for any one who has been oppressed, and dealt with injustices in and out of school. Who have had tough experiences and wish to fight, and go up against the system! Whether you are currently a teenager who wishes to take a stand or an adult who wishes to support youth and offer advise and own experiences, SYPP wants to meet, get to know you, and offer a space to make a change. As one of twelve students on the board of Seattle Young People’s Project, I was partly responsible for the overall finances, policies, and direction of the organization. Additionally, I was involved in the selection process for the new executive director. I learned how to write grants, and how to manage finances. Also during my sophomore year, I was Co-Coordinator of African Youth United, a program designed to help unite Africans and African Americans together, and help them understand that they are similar in so many ways. I arranged for speakers to come talk to our group and coordinated service projects. i Helped organize The Bowl-a-Thon. As a coordiator i was responsible for recruiting team capatin and donations. I also helped handle day-of logistics such as managing pledge tracking sheets, lane assignments and donation collections. and I manage to raise $15,000 to fund different projects within Seattle Young Peoples project.
