This past spring, due in part to the financial and logistical support of the Plum Grant and DoSomething, Seeding Labs was able to send out it largest shipment of equipment to date.
In February 2008, the University Austral de Chile in Valdiva, Chile, suffered a devastating fire, burning the entire Biochemistry Department to the ground. The research of several scientists was lost, and many feared the worst. Through our international contacts, Seeding Labs was notified of this problem and began to work on a solution. We teamed up with Biogen Idec, Inc, to collect enough surplus equipment to completely refurbish five labs – a large portion of the department. The scientists received the equipment this summer and are slowly beginning to work again on local, pressing scientific and health problems.
The Plum Grant and DoSomething were crucial financially and logistically to helping Seeding Labs make this shipment happen. We are proud that it was our largest shipment to date, and happy to see the advancement of global science.
