The Problem

At Heel Your Sole, we are passionate about breaking the cyclical environment that low-income and at-risk youth must endure. We give hope, help, and direction through a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to enrich the lives of those involved in our program. By advocating for all children we continuously promote understanding and tolerance, values they will take with them for the rest of their lives. Heel Your Sole brought volunteers to the Leake and Watts Residential Center to help revitalize the Leake & Watts campus! We worked side by side with the residents age 12-21 to spruce up the living space of the sixty six children and teens living in residential housing on the grounds. Each year, Leake & Watts serves over 3,000 children, adults and families from all across the New York Metro Area and Westchester County. Working together, we create strong foundations for future success.

Plan of Action

We planted vegtables, painted portraits, and got physical (a rousing game of basketball broke out in the gym!)- Through these activities we taught them about nutrition and eating healthy, how to release feelings using artistic means of expression, and then had some 5 on 5 F-U-N! Build a team of like-minded peers and mentors who are able to help you achieve your goal. Great leaders acknowledge their ideas are not always the best .Make sure everyone feels comfortable and an opportunity to speak their opinions freely and without judgment. Our company design utilizes grass roots volunteering and mentoring in order to grow successfully. Each volunteer that comes into the school needs to refer a minimum of one additional person to Heel Your Sole, Inc. We want to create a ripple effect in each community we service. We will start with an initial splash of local volunteers and schools. We will then use frequent message reinforcement in order to build loyal support from brand ambassadors. From there, each positive association or interaction that is established will continue to expand throughout the community. As a company, we don’t want to become just a partner to the schools and children we aid; we strive to become family.
