The Problem

Baltimore BORN (BOYS Opportunity and Resource Network) was founded by Ravens player Domonique Foxworth in response to the large number of young men who have the talent and potential to succeed, but lack the opportunities, resources and networks to sustain them as they navigate through the difficulties of overburdened families, struggling schools and the illusory appeal of the street.

Plan of Action

Admitting students in their fifth grade year and following them through their expected college matriculation, BORN works to improve reading comprehension, critical writing and thinking skills, while helping to navigate inevitable social obstacles. Encouraging the boys to become healthy, responsible men, BORN builds the participant’s capacity for conflict resolution, public service, and moral reasoning. - We admit boys in the fifth grade to instill a strong academic foundation and provide continual support throughout middle and high school. - We place paramount importance on college education and foster interest, enthusiasm, and ability in every class session. - We deliver a curriculum designed specifically for BORN that challenges and improves reading performance and enjoyment. - We assess students' present levels of performance in order to provide tutoring and resources aimed at improvement and achievement.
