The Problem

I know many people who want to become active in their community, but don't know of established organizations who address the issues they are passionate about. I am bridging that gap at Servapalooza by bringing volunteer participants and over 50 community organizations together on Global Youth Service Day.

Plan of Action

I am planning Servapalooza, as one of the two Lead Event Coordinators. The strategy to complete such a monumental event is to create 9 teams of three to four volunteers, in three phases, according to different categories of planning. The Teams are as follows: Lead Event Coordinators, Partners, Vendors, Sponsors, Event Logistics, PR/Media, Influential/VIP, and Parade. I am using a project management website called basecamp to organize volunteers and track the team's progress. Not only have we already begun to empower youth and adults to contribute to service learning in planning Servapalooza, but we have long-term goals as well. The goals are: 1. To engage 5,000 Servapalooza participants in service throughout the year, which gives approximately 1 million dollars in high need areas of San Diego County. 2. To donate approximately $400,000 in human resources to our community in just one day through 5,000 Servapalooza participants serving 50 needs in our communities. 3. To invite 750,000 youth, families and young adults to participate in Servapalooza while branding of your name and logo on Servapalooza materials and products. 4. To cultivate children and young adults to become community leaders and peace builders because of YOU. 5. To prevent dropout, to promote academic achievement and civic responsibility by supporting youth service learning as an effective and innovative youth development strategy.
