The Problem

Children in rural China, especially in the mountains area, where is hard to get a formal, solid education. We must educate and give equal opportunity to all. With more educated people, the more brains we have to solve world problems. In many poor countries, terrorists try to encourage these poor people to get involved in their terrorist group. With no choice since they have no solid education, logical thinking, or things needed to survive, they are forced to give in and go on the side of these bad people. Thus, with an education, they will be able to find jobs, and then be independent on their own.

Plan of Action

We will build a school Tongle Town, Leye County, Guangxi Province, China. The Leye County is located in the northwest of Guangxi, southeast of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The county has the total area of 2617 square kilometers (mostly mountain area), with a total population of 157,000. It is home to the Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao, Buyi, Yi, Mulam, Gelo, Beijing, water, and Dong ethnic groups of 11 ( 50% of the Zhuang, Han 48%, 2% other minorities). It's one of the 28 poorest counties in China. Name of the school: Shanggang Village Elementary School. 230 students, 16 teachers. The existing classroom building is identified as dangerous. There is no library, computer room, playground, air conditioning, etc.. However, the project is: a 3-floor, 500-square meter building. It will be used for both classrooms and dormitories. Estimated total cost: RMB 468,000. The county education bureau can support RMB 68,000. Still need RMB 400,000 (USD $58,651). We are hiring local contractors and have a local person look over the school After completion, we will visit the school.
