The Problem

The Silver Stand Bay is a beautiful stretch of beach on Coronado Island in San Diego. It is a very popular travel destination for tourists, newcomers and native San Diegans to spend a day enjoying the water, building sand castles and watching dolphins swim by. However, because it is such a popular area for holidays, summer, and basically year round here in San Diego, the beach gets very dirty with trash, bottles, and other miscellaneous items left by beachgoers.

Plan of Action

-We will begin by conducting a first group meeting to introduce the project to all the youth at our center and get a list of all that want to participate. -We will take a walk down to the beach to determine how much trash there is and how much cleanup we need to do. -We will schedule two Fridays per month to do the cleanups. -We will buy gloves, masks, trashbags and other supplies for the cleanup. -We will make posters and fliers to let the entire community know what we are doing and to try to gain community support. -We will do our cleanups and at each time we will make notes of dangerous hazards on the beach and ask our advisor to help us contact the city council to make changes. -We will also ask the City of Coronado if they can put up new signs in more places to remind visitors to keep the area clean.
