The Problem

Skateboarding is not seen or shown in the majority of these populated areas or taken on as something great to do. The city, local media, or communities do not promote skateboarding highly. In turn no progression is made to improve the scene. Solution - Community development starts with advocacy creating grassroots in the area to notice the problem, figure out the situation, and take action. The majority of them notice and start to become a leader in their communities and start advocacy to dilute the problem. Skateboarders and supporters of the sport and culture are the key to help grow and develop skateboarding.

Plan of Action

Working with my local community development corporation we have been successful in skateboard advocacy and program coordination in the communities. Giving a new outlet for kids in the inner city to gain active and very healthy atmospheres. This greatly helps the youth avoid future risk of obesity with creatively active exercise. Skateboarding sparks immediate interest in the youth giving a chance to challenge their mental and physical states. In perspective a skateboard can give a passion towards a child and in turn give the child a light towards a career they can acknowledge at an early age and progress from there and towards their future goals.
