Social & Public Health Initiatives in Rural South India
the problem:
I'm trying to alleviate the burden that globalization has had on this rural village in India. These villagers are innovative and optimistic, but they are trapped in their own poverty from lack of government aid. I hope to provide opportunities for them to actualize their dreams through preventable and sustainable health practices and women empowerment through micro-entrepreneurship.

We cannot ignore the issues and burdens facing third-world countries that keep them from living a decent life. In publicizing my work with these villagers as well as collaborating with other international organizations on these projects, I hope to facilitate their rise out of poverty.
the plan of action:
I have three projects to be implemented at the same time so that we can target various issues in a comprehensive manner. First, through our community health worker program, I hope to educate and engage the community about public health issues so that they may be able to avoid preventable infectious disease through proper hygiene and sanitation practices. They will be working directly with the health clinic that we built ourselves. At the same time, I hope to empower women in the community through a micro-finance initiative that will provide them supplemental income by helping them manage their handmade crafts business. Finally, our collaboration with India's largest shoes manufacturer will allow the schoolchildren of this rural village to never have to go without shoes again, which will greatly decrease their chances of contracting parasites or other infections so that they may be able to concentrate on their education.
how you can get involved:
We try to utilize every resource we have in order to save on costs in order to make our organization a sustainable venture. But still, the world is fueled by money, and so we hope to use the grant to actualize our projects. The money will go towards printing out pamphlets for the community health workers and advertising our organization to communities in the United States. The bulk of our funds will be allocated for medical supplies, which we will bring over to the health clinic we built. A small portion of the funds will be for living costs, specifically lodging.
