Sock it to Cancer

the problem:

Leukemia & Lymphoma Cancer. We have become aware of how devasting these cancers are. Andrew the Child of the Year attended our Big Shots event and Ms. Rost who is running for the LLS woman of the Year and they provided us with the information about this probelem. Funding is desperately needed and a local student also has this cancer.

why it's important:

My family personally lost a teacher Mr. Keith McBride to cancer a few years ago. He was a great family friend and teacher. We got involved because of him and Ms. Rost asking our club to "Do Something" about it. She needed our help in reaching teens and their families. We all wear socks so we thought we could help get donations with them.

the plan of action:

1) We had a table at the Big Shots April 24th, 2010 event and raised $200 and had Andrew, the boy cancer child of the year and Ms. Rost come and talk about it. We gave out fact sheets. 2) WE had a table at Heritage Day on May 15th and raised $150 and each ldsn member has been given 1 pr of socks and a donation/order form and a letter to send out educating people and requesting a $10 donation and they will receive a pair of socks.

how you can get involved:
