The Problem

Getting the word out....

Plan of Action

My grandfather, an engineer went to help rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, hearing his stories and watching the devastation the earthquake in Haiti left behind inspired me to research what I can do to make a difference. What I found was Soles 4 Souls, a shoe donation drive that delivers shoes to children and adults in need around the world. The logistics of putting together a fundraiser was a lot harder than I imagined. I knew I needed to reach a large audience all at once. I presented my idea and plan to the School Assembly coordinator, wrote a speech made several different posters, ordered customized wrist-bands, posted the posters around campus, set up official drop off location bins, submitted materials to local businesses and press release to all our local media and spoke with the school choir director and choreographed a flash mob dance routine. Arriving to school 20 minutes early and staying after school for 20 – 30 minutes paid off. We collected more shoes than I could have hoped. Knowing that my hard work not only helped someone in need, and has potentially saved a life makes me feel like I made a difference. I am so proud to have been a part of Soles 4 Souls and the response from the community. It made all the hard work that went into this project worth every minute.
