About a month ago, I found out that there was a group of young Somalian refugees who moved into the Houston community. I thought that my friends and I could do something to help them out.
Starting April 7th, we will begin our project by meeting the refugees at a community center near Rice University. We will teach english, math, science, and any other subjects that they need help with.
Being a second generation American, I know about the difficulties my parents faced in order to become acclimated with a new home, language, and culture. With this grant money, we want to purchase study resources, books, and tools (pencils, pens, paper) that we will be able to use for a long time to come. Hopefully, with the grant money, we can help make their transition smoother and easier.
