The Problem

I felt like some of our soldiers were not feeling welcomed, and being thanked enough for what they had done for our country. It is something that has tugged at my heart for year. The men and women soldiers needed toiletry supplies from when they left the hospital to when they got rehab.

Plan of Action

For my project, I worked with the Wounded Warriors at Ft.Belvior U.S Army base. I collected over 900 cards and baggies of cookies for Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas. As another part of my project, I collected about 100 fleece blankets for the soldiers and male and female toiletry bags. The toiletry bags included shampoo, soap, razors, lotion. We also had a sister troop, that donated over $300 of Mary-Kay products for the women. We also take six dozen cupcakes to the soldiers the second Tuesday every month. The children who are involved in the cupcake project were inspired by my passion for helping our soldiers, and decided that they would help every month with making and decorating the cupcakes. These children are excited every month to help make and deliver these small gifts to the men and women that have been wounded while serving our country. My project has inspired several of the girls in our troop and some have even started planning what they are going to be doing for their own project. I am the second girl in Virginia to receive this award and the 31st in the United States to have earned this award.
