The Problem

SOS Outreach through its programming attempts to increase ten protective factors in youth, specifically in underserved youth where the protective factors are more susceptible, that can direct youth to making positive decisions for healthy and successful lives. SOS Outreach attempts to increase these factors through its five core values, positive adult mentorship, and sense of accomplishment while participating in outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, kayaking, backpacking, mountain biking, hiking and stand-up paddle boarding. The ten protective factors in youth that SOS Outreach focuses its programs to address are: 1. Neighborhood Resources 2. Interested and Caring Adults 3. Sense of Acceptance and Belonging 4. High Controls Against Deviant Behavior 5. Models for Conventional Behavior 6. Positive Attitude Toward the Future/Future Expectations 7. Value on Achievement 8. Ability to Work with Others 9. Ability to Workout Conflicts 10. Liking/Perceived Competence If the ten protective factors in youth are ignored it can lead to poor decisions like choosing to do drugs, giving into peer pressure, dropping out of school, obesity, and many other issues today's youth face.

Plan of Action

My plan of action is to continue getting more people information! The more people know, the more they can be involved. Our organization functions on the will of people being involved. The teachers provide the youth to be in the programs. Ski resorts provide the resources for the programs. Individuals provide the equipment and positive adult mentorship. If one of these pieces is not there, the problem cannot be solved and the youth may choose to take a path that will not lead to a healthy and positive future. I will spread the word by managing successful programs, utilizing social media, and recruiting people that want to help in any way.
