S.O.U.L Trip: New Orleans/ Mississippi
the problem:
Over our winter break, we went to New Orleans/ Mississippi to help rebuild houses and the community that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. We planted 5,000 tree, built homes, did plumbing, built a shed and gate, fixed a roof or two, cleared brush, and anything else we could do.

23why it's important:
It is important because this experience changed they way I see things. it is no longer just a headline in the newspaper, but a real life situation that needs to be taken care of. While I was down there with the 22 other people, we saw signs from this disheartened community saying "5 years too late". We were told by the people we helped that we give them a brighter future to look forward to. Serving Others United in Love
the plan of action:
Like I said in the why is it important category: While I was down there with the 22 other people, we saw signs from this disheartened community saying "5 years too late". We were told by the people we helped that we give them a brighter future to look forward to. Serving Others United in Love. These people had everything stripped away from them and to be able to give them hope means the world to me and the group that I went with.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by donating money, offering help to them, Katrina Relief is always welcoming volunteers.

I am planning on trying to go on another trip next year. The college I attend offers trips like these over our breaks.
