I recently returned from South Africa, and while I was there, I was lucky enough to spend time in a local village there. I was so touched by everyone that I met. They were all such beautiful, sweet humans, but a lot of them were starving, or really sick and unable to pay for medication. Soon enough, I realized that I couldn't just come home and not do anything to help them, so I decided that I would do all that I could to establish a community food bank in that village. This would alleviate the force of starvation and the need to choose between paying for food or medication.
I am currently trying to raise enough money to construct a relatively small food bank down there. I will continue to augment and expand it throughout my life, but it needs to start off small for obvious reasons. Local South African grocery chains already said that they would be willing to donate surplus inventory to the food bank, once established. On top of that, I also plan to purchase fresh produce and such from local farmers..that way the money goes further and allows the farmers to work under better conditions as well
