The Problem

Two years ago our band program was cut significantly. Our 6-12 director was cut to half time. The fifth grade band program was cut. Marching band was gone, jazz band was gone. We had just got a new director, and the seniors were giving her a hard time.They said she was worthless, called her horrible names. Overall, our band was going down the tubes.

Plan of Action

Two years ago, a senior decided to bring back our drumline. Our drumline encouraged younger kids to get involved in band. Numbers started to come back up. Our director appeared before the board and for the first time it twenty years, new marching equipment was purchased. This fall we also went to the school board and shared how band is coming back and how we needed a full time instructor. This spring our director was put back to full time, and fifth grade band was introduced. Next year, we hope to have band class in a regular class slot again.
