The first step I took was creating a school club for the national non-profit organization, To Write Love On Her Arms, which is dedicated to spreading awareness of suicide and depression and also to investing in recovery and prevention programs. I encouraged members to donate to the cause and also to tell as many as they can about the organization by buying t-shirts and promoting it on various website networking (MySpace, Facebook, SocialVibe, etc.). We participated in a Walk for Suicide Prevention with a team representing our high school. We also did our own version of the national Free Hugs Campaign at our high school. During lunch we walked around with signs that said "free hugs" and gave a hug to anyone who wanted one, simply to be nice and make someone smile, if only for a few moments. So far, we have been featured in our school newsletter and are one of the most popular clubs on campus, with good success in all of our events.
