Spring Break Trip: Femininity in a Globalizing World
the problem:
The focus of this trip is on femininity and the affects of globalization on women worldwide. We will be specifically focusing on women in Tijuana, Mexico, but we will be learning about gender issues across the globe in order to prepare for/shape our Mexico experience. This trip will be both service and learning based and will provide a platform for intercultural communication.

30why it's important:
I'm a woman. I want to know more about issues affecting women around the world. That's how I came up with this idea. This entire trip will be mutually beneficial to both Tijuana Christian Mission and Miami University. From Miami University's perspective, we will gain (1) valuable contacts for future programs, (2) program participants will get the chance to learn more about a project/topic they are passionate about through hands-on experience, and (3) students will get a chance to connect to more cosmopolitan concepts that reach across cultural/linguistic divides and reflect upon said experiences.
the plan of action:
I have already contacted Tijuana Christian Mission (Sarah Gomez) with the trip dates. We are currently looking for a student organization to pair with in order to legitimate the trip. We are also working with various professors in order to put together a reading packet for the topic of focus. Once we have everything solidified, we will begin recruitment, the application process, and more intensive fundraising. The trip dates are March 4-14, 2010.
how you can get involved:
Ideas, Information, and Educational/Related Materials are always welcome! If you go to Miami University, let me know if you're interested in going on this trip.
