Stamp Out Styrofoam
Submitted by Neerg on Sat, 01/05/2008 - 10:17
the problem:
If we lined up all of the styrofoam cups made in one day the line would stretch around the world! The worst part is that styrofoam never breaks down. Never. Also, sea animals like eating this plastic foam and it usually kills them and chemicals in styrofoam cause global warming.

This is a Pretty cool project!
But do you think you should aim it differently?
I know that there is this plastic coming out that dissolves in water and can be used as fertilizer in your garden.
Maybe crating another product to replace Styrofoam as such that dissolves in sodium hydroxide, one of the most commonly used substances in laboratories and is used in making soda-pop, clean water, and soap. :)
Just saying because it might be generations till Styrofoam becomes unused.
What ever you choose, ROCK on this is a totally great project!
So...how do you propose we get rid of styrofoam?
Lots of people have expressed this same comment about styrofoam...now what?
It's toxic when heated and doesn't breakdown in the trash. Why are we still accepting products packaged in it? There aren't enough in mass to discourage restaurants, craft and garden, or companies (packing/shipping with it) from using it. It's everywhere! We need something cheaper, light, better environmentally and quickly manufactured or it won't be replaced. Anyone good at chemistry to develop the next best product?
At least the above comment about the plastic that breaks down into fertilizer of some sort is in the right direction.
We ned to get some brains in gear- get away from the Wii and take a walk on the wild(out)-side.
