The Problem

Rape and Sexual Assault are real crimes that happen everywhere but most people just turn a cheek to them. Most women do not report the crime resulting in it being the most under reported crime. The facts are that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime and college aged women are 4 times more likely. Those are big numbers especially considering that every 2 minutes, someone in America is sexually assaulted. (www.rain.org) Not just men and women, but children too. It's a terrible thing to think about but the only way to prevent this from happening is to realize that it does in fact happen and that something needs to be done about it.

Plan of Action

My plan of action is to do as much as I can to raise awareness. I am currently writing a blog that tracks my healing journey, while giving help and information to anyone out there. I also plan on either starting my own organization on my campus or joining one that already has my goal in mind. All in all, I just want to help those who have been through any type of sexual violence and let them know that they are not alone and there is help out there. I would also like to inform everyone out there about the dangers of sexual violence and how to protect yourself.

Project Updates

Flyers have been posted but no calls or emails from people interested in joining the group. I am still waiting for people to join.
