State Wide Initiative

the problem:

What I am doing is gathering as many student volunteers on my campus as possible to help me with the State Wide Initiative. The State Wide Initiative is a way to spread awareness on the regiona food shortage at food banks. Because of the rising fuel prices, increased costs of living and decreasing wages, many people are struggling economically and forced to turn to a food back. I organized an event that would take exactly two days to complete. The first day, each of us will knock on peoples' front doors in locak neighborhood around my campus in Albany. We will address this problem to the household and ask if they would be willing to dinate nonperishable food items. We will then hand them a flyer with all the information with a plastic bag that was donated from a locak supermarket. With this bag, they can fill it with dry and canned foods and leave it on their front porch. On the second day, all the student volunteers and I will come back to every house we visited and gather each and every bag of nonperishable food items to be sent to the North Eastern New York Regional Food Bank. I organized this event through NYPIRG, the New York Public Interest Research Group, on my campus (SUNY University at Albany). I am the leader of the Hunger & Homelessness Outreach Project, which is turning out to be successful and full of members this semester!
