Staten Island DS Club: Global Warming Awareness Campaign

The Problem

WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING? WHAT ARE THE CAUSES? WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS? IS IT HAPPENING NOW? ARE WE IN DANGER? HOW CAN WE HELP?These are the questions that seem to revolve around the topic of global warming. Yet how many people truly know what it is? How many know the truth? This is why we're starting a Global Awareness Week at our school. Awareness is key. How to create a Global Awareness Week at YOUR school:Talk to your teachers, assistant pricipal and principal about permission to hold an event a week long, and then collaborate with teachers who strongly support action for global awareness. Gather a group or a club of students willing to work together to concoct amazing events that will influence your fellow students to do something!PLAN!!!Some suggestions are: posting fliers, holding a movie night screening of 11th Hour (when it comes out on DVD) or an Inconvenient Truth, holding a short play on animal extinction (polar bears, lobsters, coral reef), holding a dinner to educate parents, and so on.Make sure to have a schedule of the events, the speakers coming in and permission from teachers to take students out of class. If worse comes to worst, you can always educate during lunch or after school.
