The Problem

The problem we are trying to solve is an on-going one. It does not have a simple solution. It is not something that can be solved with money or time alone. The problem that we are trying to solve is ignorance. We are trying to educate people, to help them and to teach them about their bodies and minds. Namely, our goal is to educate people in non-judgmental and open ways about the effects of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, safe sex, and hearing protection. We take a "harm-reduction" approach, which provides people with the information about these important decisions, and asks that they decide for themselves. We feel that individuals who are better educated will choose better decisions for themselves, and thus solve their personal problem of ignorance.

Plan of Action

Currently, we attend as many all-ages, all-night, electronic dance music events as possible within the Seattle area. Typically we set up a booth, which consists of a table with a fancy tablecloth, a few strings of rope lights, a basket with earplugs, a basket with condoms, a basket with candy, and a number of informational cards. We also have a donation bucket and a form with suggested donations, as our group relies solely of the donations we receive either boothing events or benefit events that are thrown on our behalf (generally once per year). We also walk around the event to ensure party-goers are having a good time and are engaging in safe behavior. We provide water bottle to those in need and assist party-goers who are not having a good time, even if it is just by providing a shoulder to rest their head on. This is an on-going activity that I hope to see impacting the Seattle dance scene for as long as it exists!
