STEP UP TO THE PLATE

the problem:

My name is Evan and I'm 11 years old; I'm also the little brother of the founder of Peace Is The Goal (www.dosomething.org/project/peace-is-the-goal). I am lucky to have baseball equipment to play with. I know that there are a lot of kids in the world who do not have these things. They use rocks or cans for baseballs and sticks for bats. Many kids have to play baseball barefooted because they don't have shoes or cleats. I want to be able to send kids baseball supplies that they can use at their schools, churches, youth programs or in their neighborhoods. I want to give kids who don't have much something to do and share with them the game of baseball.

why it's important:

At age 8, I started to collect new and used baseball equipment. I find gear at stores and at rummage sales. I and my dad will be looking on the Internet for kids groups that need baseball equipment. When I find a group, I can ship them a box of balls, bats, gloves, helmets, cleats, batting gloves, etc.

the plan of action:

I and my dad are constantly looking for baseball gear to add to the box. I get very excited when I find stuff to put in. I want to send boxes of supplies to kids who need it in a community somewhere in the world. I will be updating my Web site to let you know of projects that I have completed.

Over the initiative’s first few years, I have completed 9 projects which have delivered baseball equipment to kids in eight countries. These nations include: Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Romania and the United States.
