Why It's Important

I plan to help people by giving them advice and make them understand that they are a person in the world, and that they do belong no matter what.
How Can Others Get Involved?
Others can help by giving other people advice too. Maybe even sharing stories how they got throught it or how they have faith in themselves to get through it.

i think this is great what you are doing.
i am also survivor of both and
i think that to be able to do sumthing like this
and give others advice to help them is a great thing.

one of my close friends cuts themselfs. i will call her sue. sue is in a physicl abuseive relationship. her boyfriend, ill call him tom, beats sue. so sue goes home and cuts herself. sue comes to school with a sweatshirt on so noone will see her bruises from tom or her cuts from herself. how do i help her?
The best way to help Sue is to give her a shoulder to cry on if she needs it. But if she doesn’t want that; don't be offended because I've pushed people way too. You have to tell her that the only way this is going to stop if she tells someone about her boyfriend beating her. If Sue can't confront someone that can help, than tell her to keep a journal. Not like a diary or anything, something private to write her thoughts in. It may sound stupid, but my journal has saved my life many times, and maybe it can make her stop cutting. The only good thing about this situation is that she does cover the scars and the bruises. It is embarrassing to walk around school with both of them on your body. Try your best to get her away from her boyfriend; take her out to the movies, have sleepovers any chance you can get; anything to make her feel protected. If she claims she loves him, she’s totally, completely, 100% wrong. He shouldn’t be beating her. Maybe Tom has a problem at home, and has to take everything out on Sue for no reason. Keep me updated, and if you need any more advice, I am here to help.

Just because Sue gets abused by Tom, does NOT mean she doesn't love him. Love is blind. And you shouldn't push her to the extreme to tell somebody on Tom. That is a lot of pressure on her. If she isn't ready, and you keep pressuring her to tell somebody, she could possibly not want to talk to you anymore. It's not easy telling somebody about that kind of stuff, especially since she loves him and doesn't want him to get introuble. I know that's kind of hard to understand, but if you were in her shoes you would.
