Stop The Violence- National Programs in Action

We are planning an informational week for our 7-10th grade classes. The first day we will give out Hershey's hugs and kisses to each of them with statistics about dating violence attached and have them take a pre-week quiz to see what they know. Day two we will have an assembly for those classes where we will hopefully have a guest speaker from Synergy House, show a Public Service Announcement we made, read a personal story, and show a short powerpoint about warning signs. Day three we will give out informational packets with statistics and they will play a game where each person states one thing they learned and then draws a line. Each person will have three turns and it will go around the circle. In the end the picture should be something they think of when they think about a healthy relationship. This is relevant because in order to make the picture work out, they have to work together-much like in a healthy relationship. The fourth day they will take the quiz again and everyone who turns both quiz's in to us will get three bracelets (two black, one blue) and will go into a drawing to get a free t-shirt that we designed. (they are black with blue writing. The front says: love shouldn't hurt. The back says: You have the right to a safe and healthy relationship, free from violence and free from fear.) And the last day we will have the drawing and will give out packets to everyone with some warning signs and people to contact if you or know someone who is in an abusive situation. All of the activities/ readings will take place during "Crew" which is a period we have set out of the day for everyone to read, do activities, or work on homework. We will hang the pictures from our activity around the school and will have a pledge banner for everyone at the assembly to sign that will also be hanging up.
