The Problem
The problem that our small group is attempting to solve is the low warning time that people have to seek shelter from a storm such as a tornado. By having trained spotters in the field like myself, we warn citizens of incoming dangers faster and more accurate than weather radar. We are attempting to save lives and lessen injuries.
Plan of Action
Our plan of action is relatively simple. Using National Weather Service forecasts, we plan ahead of upcoming severe weather outbreaks. The night before the event I call up my team and give the go or no go for the following day. If it is a chase day, my van is packed with my laptop and cameras. We then head to a likely area where storms will fire. We wait until storms begin to form then chase them from a safe distance and report any hazards to the National Weather Service and emergency services.
In the event a town is hit by a storm and people need assistance, we are ready to give it. In the back we have first aid kits, water, and tools to help wherever we are needed in the wake of a disaster.
