The Problem
We are trying to solve Hunger Issues in The Lowcountry in South Carolina. Many families and individuals go hungry and The Lowcountry Food Bank provides food for these families and individuals.
Plan of Action
We got into different groups that came up with different fundraisers. Then we came together as a group and discussed which ones we liked. Then we took the best ideas and put them in action. The fundraisers we came up with were a Dodgeball tournament, class competitions, a competition between the principals, collected cans at the football games and getting other schools and neighborhoods to participate. The Dodgeball Tournament collected cans and money not only to participate in the tournament but also to watch the game. Overall The Dodgeball Tournament raised over $500 and 200 cans. The class competition was where students brought in cans and placed them in their class bin. Each grade had a different teacher assigned to them and the grade that brought in the most cans that teacher had to wear a Twinkie suit all day long. The competition between the principals was after the class competition. Students brought in cans and placed them in the box of the principal they wanted to see dance during a pep-rally. The football games were a great place to raise can as well. Students and families brought in cans to the game and placed the cans in bins by the entrance. We did this at 6 different games and raised 250 cans. The last thing we did was getting other schools and neighborhoods to participate as well. We got two different elementary schools to raise 5,000 cans for the food drive. The neighborhoods collect 275 cans for the food drive. With all these efforts, we raised 18,895 pounds of food.
