The Problem

I founded, spearheaded, and create a weekly high school video news cast. I came up with the idea, approached two friends, created the project, and then gathered approval from my high school principal who was supportive of the idea. Our mission is to bring the Tri-Central high school news to the students in an entertaining, yet informative way. Our goal is threefold: to encourage students to go on to college, to reach out for a tutor if they need help, and build comradeship among students so that they get involved and become active in our school. Our broadcast videos began as a way to bring the news to the students; however, we have since created specific goals to accomplish, as well as, bringing the news to the students. Our video is shown throughout the high school and middle school weekly; as well as, it has been placed on “You Tube” and “Facebook.” We have received numerous compliments form teachers, parents, and students, saying they cannot wait until the next broadcast. As we continue to promote our videos, our hope is for students as well as parents to become more active in our school.

Plan of Action

We plan to measure progress of students signing up for college by those who request their transcripts to be sent to colleges. For those who do not, we will step up and try to reach out to those students. We plan to measure the progress of our mentoring and tutoring program by measuring the results of their grade improvements. And lastly, comradeship, we plan to measure by the support of our video and the ideas from students to promote events. We want students to care and to help improve our school. We kicked off this project six weeks ago, and we have already seen a positive impact in our school. Students are supportive of the video and we have received many compliments. Since the kick off of our video news cast, we have had more students who have signed up to tutor and more students being tutored. We will continue to measure progress through our guidance counselor regarding grade improvements. After “College Go Week,” we will measure how many students have made requests for their high school transcripts.
