Student Volunteer Team (SVT)

the problem:

We have discovered that teens do not always know how to find volunteer opportunities and know about local volunteer programs, so our club will solve this problem by forming a partnership between us,Loudoun Do Something Now ,Volunteer Loudoun a government/non-profit volunteer service ,and our Loudoun Valley High School by the Creation of a Student Volunteer Team-SVT

vital stats:

people impacted:

100

people involved:

25

why it's important:

We feel we can help publicize these programs by a Peer to peer aproach on site at our high school by using our members from Ldsnow club. We volunteer and we know all about how to plug in and we think we can be of service by working with our Guidance dept and the outside agency, Volunteer Loudoun that does the Volunteer Student Awards and Scholarships. We can increase the number of people helped and issues addressed by getting more students involved and by connecting them with Loudoun Do Something NOW club projects.

the plan of action:

APRIL- Have a table in mixing bowl/lobby with Balloons, candy bowls, and student volunteers handing out the booklets, little cards, and forms. Maybe a Guidance office sheet on Volunteering
Bigshots-April 24, 5-10 event at Ldsnow table, have all the materials out for students, families to get
Last week of April, Tell everyone deadline to turn in the forms, and to Tell a Friend!

MAY- Give out the new forms for 2010-2011 and make it festive to encourage students to start using forms, and use our theme from last Expo show
“Splash into Summer Service” Mrs. Rose can give us current upto date Volunteer Summer opportunities. Encourage students to get their own account thru 1-800volunteer.org
Pilot will run from April activities through May 31, 2010 with a follow up review with VL & LVHS to discuss the merits of continuing and expanding partnership ideas

June- Meet to talk about it

August-Get ready for Viking Fest in fall ( last yr, Ldsnow had forms on our table and the Do something Back to School Supply Campaign. This idea can help the new 3 clubs, as our Guidance Director wants to train and equip the Freshman class next Fall in volunteering How to do it, and we can help out since we have been running our club almost 2 years. Last year we collectively did over 2,000 volunteer hours, and recently won the Outstanding Volunteer Group for the Year in Loudoun County. We have over 8 projects including the BigShot tournament.
