The Problem

Students for Sensible Drug Policy is an international grassroots network of students who are concerned about the impact drug abuse has on our communities, but who also know that the War on Drugs is failing our generation and our society. SSDP mobilizes and empowers young people to participate in the political process, pushing for sensible policies to achieve a safer and more just future, while fighting back against counterproductive Drug War policies, particularly those that directly harm students and youth.

Why It's Important

This is important to me, because not only is this Drug War affecting me, and my generation, it is affecting the lives of many of my friends, family members, and people that are close to me. I am trying to do the best I can to help, so that people are not in any type of situation, and maybe someday, I can be apart of an organization that actually made a change in someone's life.

The Plan Of Action

Change counterproductive drug policies at more than 10 campuses. Continue to lobby Congress on issues such as repealing the Aid Elimination Penalty, defunding federal student drug testing grants, and reforming mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Work with the Obama administration to shift drug policy toward a public health model and away from a criminal justice model.

How Can Others Get Involved?

How people can help is by helping us reach our goals with the drug policies and actually take a stand, lobby, get the word out there, educate thousands of people, let them know what we stand for. Listen, just listen to what we have to say.
