The Problem

Every year, 85% of purchased clothing in the US ends up in a landfill, with over 25% fit to be resold. If even a small percentage is designer, it amounts to billions of dollars of resellable, designer clothing creating waste in landfills instead of value. Meanwhile, nonprofits across the US are cash-starved due to decreases in funding. Styleta converts a targeted population from designer discarders to Styleta donors and leverages the Internet to capture the market value of designer donations.

Plan of Action

Our donations are sourced from individuals, boutiques, up-and-coming or student designers, and from clothing drives within larger corporations, such as Digitas, JPMorgan, etc. These donations are collected by student volunteers at our college campus branches and sold directly to students through in-person trunk shows and online sales. We are currently on four campuses (Harvard, NYU, Indiana, Binghamton), and are looking to expand to increase our reach and impact. The money we raise is donated back to charities that support women's initiatives.
