Last summer our Girl Scout Troop, 2294, raised money painting faces at the local Arts Festival to support a free summer story time program at the City of Kennesaw's Community House. The City allowed us to use the space for free. The money we raised paid for a professional story teller to come and educate us on how be Story Tellers and to host half of the Story Times. We worked in groups to host the other Story Times. The money also paid for books, music CD's, costumes and art and crafts supplies. We also held a community Book Drive to have an on site Book Exchange. The books and supplies that were left over at the end of the summer were donated to the local library and other charities. A grant would enable us to sustain and expand our program this summer. The Community House has since been closed but, we have a local business owner has offered to give us space at her private Arts Studio. A grant would help us hire professional Story Tellers and buy supplies. There are not a lot of age appropriate events and programs for young children in our community especially those that are free and educational. It is our hope that our Story Time program will inspire a love of reading in young children and put books in the hands of children and families throughout our community.
