The Problem

The Summer Youth Advocacy Program is a two-week advocacy training project for young people between the ages of 13 and 18. The program increases understanding of the political process, teaches the tools of grassroots, social and political advocacy through the arts, and fosters an early interest in and commitment to civic participation.

Plan of Action

The plan of action for this summer is to recruit 13 to 18 year old participants for the program, fundraise, create the schedule including guest speakers and activities, and ensure that staff are properly trained to run the program. While the program has been in place for several years, this is the first year that the staff, all of whom are former participants, are taking over the planning and implementing of the program. Since the program started more than 50 young people have attended and are now affecting change in their communities.
