Super Kids Day Food Drive

the problem:

3rd grade students at Dodge Literacy Magnet Elementary School sponsored a Super Kids Day Food Drive to collect food for the Kansas Food Bank in Wichita, Kansas on May 18, 2007. The students set a school-wide goal of 500 pounds, with a promise to spray silly string on teachers if the goal was met. After the food was collected on Super Kids Day, the students tallied the weight of the food items. They also sorted the food by categories. When representatives from the Kansas Food Bank picked up the food and had it officially weighed, students were thrilled to find out that they had collected 1,372 pounds of food to help end hunger in Kansas. The teachers were sprayed with silly string at a special assembly the following Monday.
