30why it's important:
My Grandmother died of breast cancer six years ago, and for me to be that young I didnt understand what she died of i just know that she was gone and was never coming back. Breast Cancer runs in my family so I know what I have to do to prevent it, and i wanted to let others know as well.
the plan of action:
What my mother and I did was since i was little I always wanted a Sweet 16 birthday party for when i turn 16. So my mom combined my birthday party with a Breast Cancer funraiser to give a big donaion to the Sister Network Incorporated. And my birthday was during October which was Breast Cancer Awarness month, it was all perfect. Instead of gifts I asked for monetary donation to give to the foundation. We had pamphlets, made pink ribbons with my name on it, and all kinds of stuff to get the word out. We also had a speaker from our local hospital to speak to us abou breast cancer. And to top it all off we had a van from the Beaufort Memorial Hospital come to do free mammograms before my party. It was so awsome and everybody had fun while learning alot. It was one of the best days of my life.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by just spreading the word. No only can women can get breast cancer, but men can get it too. That why once you turn 25 you need to get an annual mammogram and even ask your doctor to show you how to do self-mammograms while you're at home for early detection.
Fundraiser and lucheons would be great. Knowledge is power and can save your life.
