The Problem

Since 2005, I have been participating in open water swims as a way to raise money and awareness for M.S. and cancer research. My first swim was when I was 11 years old. I swam across the Hudson River and raised $2500 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The past two years, I have swam the Long Island Sound of New York in conjunction with Swim Across America, a nationally recognized organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment. To date, I have raised over $30,000 for these two great causes.

Plan of Action

My short term plan is to once again participate in this summer's event with Swim Across America. On Saturday morning, July 30, 2011, I hop into the Long Island Sound and swim a few miles for those in need. Long term, I'll be heading off to college next summer. I don't know where I'll wind up ... but because Swim Across America has swims across the country, finding a swim to participate in should be a snap. So long as I am healthy, I will continue to swim. No one should take their good health for granted.
