The Problem

The communities all over America tend to forget and overlook the elders in our society. My project Taste for Home brings back a sense of homeliness to the residents who live there. They need us, the volunteers in society to help them and give them joy with the the time they have left. Decorating cookies and playing bingo were just small activities in my project, but through the years my history, starting as a Girl scout visiting with the residents, refurbishing their garden, and many more activities, the volunteering has been worth it to see their smiles, to hear their numerous "Thank yous", hear some of the funniest jokes I've ever heard, and to hear their incredible life stories. Tamarac; South Florida in general is hot spot for retirement so if Taste of Home were to spread all over South Florida and further the number of elders residing at all the Assisted Living Centers would feel loved and the society couldn't forget about them, even if they'd want to.

Plan of Action

In the future, I see my project nationwide, all over the states. The communities now pay attention more to the Assisted Living Centers and to the residents themselves, not necessarily incorporating a detailed Foreign exchange/study abroad connection like myself, but sharing a part of themselves. I've started this amazing project and now it can become a chain reaction, spreading through all the communities. By sharing my story, I received much more in return along with the members of my club, receiving love and appreciation for our time, smiles, laughs, and most importantly we received their love that they were so eager to give. In the future, my club will be extending this project by slowly participating at more Living Centers and then even farther by creating a cook book of all the resident's favorite recipes that they would love to share, but have no one really to share them with.
